Although the Adelphi Distillery itself has long since disappeared, the Adelphi name was revived in 1993 by Jamie Walker, the grandson of Archibald Walker, who had owned it at the time of Barnard's visit. Adelphi Distillery Ltd is now an independent bottler of fine whiskies. We have included their blend and a couple of other of the Adelphi labels in recognition of the continuation of the name, although obviously there is no original Adelphi whisky in it. It is bottled at 40% strength. Nose: The aroma presents an interesting meeting of north-east and south-west characteristics; Speyside pear-drops and Islay peat smoke. Body: The mouth-feel is quite remarkably smooth, gentle and well balanced -"settled". Palate: The tip of the tongue detects traces of salt (Campbeltown? Skye?); the age of the fillings comes over in a mellow mustiness (old trunks), and a trace of walnuts; the sweet-dry balance is well contrived and prevents the whisky cloying; the finish is satisfyingly extenuated. Overall impression is full-bodied and civilised; ideal for evening, even post-prandial drinking.
